LOCAL AUTHOR AMONG FINALISTS FOR COMMONWEALTH SHORT STORY PRIZE
Antiguan literary stalwart, Joanne C. Hillhouse, is among twenty-five outstanding writers for the world’s most global literature prize.
Her work, Jumbie Pond, is a finalist among four Caribbean literary works for the 2025 Commonwealth Short Story Prize. It marks the first time an Antiguan & Barbudan work has been shortlisted. The stories on the 2025 shortlist were selected from a total of record-breaking 7,920 entries from 54 Commonwealth countries—almost ten percent higher than 2024.
Hillhouse’s Jumbie Pond will come up against writing from Jamaica, St. Lucia, and Guyana. The regional winners will be announced on Wednesday 14th May before the overall winner is announced on Wednesday 25th June 2025. The Commonwealth Short Story Prize is awarded annually for the best piece of unpublished short fiction from any of the Commonwealth’s 56 member states.
