Man find $18,000 for causing death
Charlesworth Samuel Jr must pay 18 thousand dollars or spend three years in prison at hard labour for causing the death of a man by dangerous driving.
The incident occurred on Factory Road near Antigua Printing and Publishing Limited around 1:15 am, July 20, 2015.
Samuel, who was riding a motorcycle, struck and killed 49-year-old Cuban Rolando Labrada Blanco who was riding a bicycle.
A female driver who witnessed the incident told police Samuel overtook several vehicles before colliding with Blanco.
The woman recalled after the crash she saw a man’s body and a bicycle hurtling through the air; Blanco died on the spot.
Samuel, who was rushed to the hospital with head injuries, remained in the intensive care unit for seven days.
At the time of the incident, the defendant did not have a driver’s license and the motorcycle was not insured.
As a result, he has been disqualified from obtaining a driver’s license for 24 months.
