Minister Rawdon Turner Leads A&B’S Delegation to CSW70 at United Nations

Social and Urban Transformation Minister, Hon. Rawdon Turner has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to promoting gender equality and safeguarding the rights of women and girls.

He was delivering the national statement at the 70th session of the Commission on the Status of Women.

CSW70 is taking place at the United Nations headquarters in New York and runs from March 9 – 19.

Minister Turner told the summit that Antigua and Barbuda has taken several legislative and policy measures to advance gender equality and social inclusion.

He says these include the establishment of a model sexual offences court which improves case management and strengthening support mechanisms for vulnerable complainants.

Minister Turner is leading a five-member delegation which includes Minister of State in the Works and Housing Ministry, Senator Shenella Govia, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Social and Urban Transformation, Sarah Stuart, Executive Director of the Directorate of Gender Affairs, Jamie Saunders, and Project Officer of the Directorate of Gender Affairs, Ashlea Ambris.
