MOST VULNERABLE TO BE CUSHIONED FROM IMPACT OF 2 PER CENT ABST INCREASE – FINANCE MINISTRY
The Government will be moving to introduce a 2% increase in the Antigua and Barbuda Sales Tax to pay for a hike in public sector salaries next year.
The Finance Ministry says this is expected to yield about 0.8 per cent of Gross Domestic Product each year.
Ministry officials say despite this, the twin-island states will continue to have the lowest tax burden in the sub-region and beyond.
Cabinet has also assured that efforts will be made to cushion the most vulnerable in the society from the impact of this tax increase.
