NEW REGULATIONS FOR SHIPPING LINES COULD PUSH UP FREIGHT RATES, CONSUMER PRICES

Changes being made in the global maritime trade could eventually push up prices for consumers in Antigua and Barbuda and the rest of the region.
Regulations are coming into effect to reduce carbon emissions from ships, and this is likely to alter the way they operate in the region.
Antigua and Barbuda is now spearheading an effort to lobby the International Maritime Oganisation to provide a carve-out for shipping lines which serve small, vulnerable states.
