Nibbs Says 5 million EC Needed for Barbuda
Government workers on the sister isle will have to wait a while longer for monies owed to them in salaries and wages.
This is according to Chairman of the Barbuda Council the Hon. Arthur Nibbs, who says trips to the treasury have proven unsuccessful in securing funds to pay workers.
The Parliamentary representative for Barbuda told ABS News that monthly paid workers are now owed for three months -May, June and July – while outstanding weekly wages have accumulated to 15 weeks.
Nibbs says that in excess of about 5 million EC dollars is required to pay the total outstanding amount.
The Council chairman adds, however, that upcoming developments on the sister isleare expected to provide jobs for residents.
They include the hotel development project at Cedar Tree Point, the Beach House Properties to begin in September, and the Pink Sand Development, involving construction of 25 cottages, which has also received approval.
