Non-Nationals Encouraged To Take Advantage Of The Amnesty To Regularize Their Status
Persons who have been granted amnesty are encouraged to take advantage of the opportunity to regularize their status.
Acting Chief Immigration Officer, Annette Mack, in an interview on Observer AM on Friday, says there are over 1200 applications for citizenship that were previously denied, because they did not qualify.
She explains if persons for some reason interrupt their period of stay in the country to travel they will lose their eligibility.
Persons who are being granted amnesty, are being asked to go to the passport department, where their file will be assessed.
They should have a police record from Antigua and Barbuda and their country of birth and letters from the required statutory bodies to ensure that they have been paying their taxes.
Mack explains how this information will assist the process and why amnesty is important.
The Acting Chief Immigration Officer adds that plans are in place to enhance the department’s enforcement unit, so that the employees will be better equipped to carry out their functions.
Mack adds that this is the ideal time for persons to get regularized.
