PAEDIATRIC DEPARTMENT HEAD ELATED WITH MICAH’S RETURN
Consultant Paediatrician and Head of the Paediatric Department, Dr. Shivon Bell-Jarvis has been on the journey from the beginning with Micah’s diagnosis.
She’s elated to have him home.
As the nation observes Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, Dr. Bell-Jarvis says one to two cases of childhood cancer are diagnosed annually in Antigua.
She says the country is in no way immune to childhood cancer therefore awareness must be raised.
Dr. Bell-Jarvis says symptoms may be vague, but if there’s something that is persisting, it is important to get it checked out.
She says one challenge in developing countries is a delayed diagnosis which makes it four times more likely for an individual to die.
