Could general elections be on the horizon?
Discussions have intensified regarding the issue after the cabinet this week instructed the supervisor of elections to make arrangements to purchase ballot paper and to acquire other supplies necessary to conduct free and fair elections.
The next general elections are constitutionally due in 2023, but based on the Westminister model of government, it is the Prime Minister’s prerogative to call it any time within the five years.
We asked Prime Minister Browne if one is likely this year.
