PM BROWNE RULES OUT ALLOWING FOREIGN MILITARY ASSETS IN A&B
Prime Minister Hon. Gaston Browne says Antigua ad Barbuda will not host any form of military assets or installations from any country.
He made the comments ahead of a two-country Caribbean visit by Commander of the US Southern Command (SOUTHCOM), Admiral Alvin Holsey.
The Prime Minister told reporters, “I can assure you that Antigua and Barbuda has absolutely no interest in hosting any form of military assets here in the country.”
Prime Minister Browne also said Antigua and Barbuda would not get involved in any military action, and the country is “happy” that it does not have military bases.
The US Embassy for Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean said Holsey would be meeting with Prime Minister Browne of Antigua and Barbuda and Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell of Grenada during his October 14-15 visit.
The visit comes as Grenada said it was studying a US request to set up radar system at its Maurice Bishop International Airport.
The US says Admiral Holsey’s visit underscores the unwavering US commitment to work with Eastern Caribbean partners like Grenada and Antigua and Barbuda to advance regional security and stability.
