PM BROWNE SLAMS TEACHERS’ SIT-IN AS ‘HEARTLESS AND TOTALLY RIDICULOUS’

Prime Minister Hon. Gaston Browne is miffed with the decision by all public school teachers to continue their sit-in, though only a handful of their members have not yet received outstanding allowances.

The head of government says the approach of the Antigua and Barbuda Union of Teachers is hurting the education of the nation’s youth, and amounts to the proverbial folly of ‘throwing out the baby with the bathwater.’

Prime Minister Browne also says the union’s action amounts to a ‘political response’, since there is no resistance from the government to pay the outstanding allowances.

He also insists the educators should “stand down” and return to their duties.

He spoke exclusively with ABS News as he returned to the country from the United States Thursday afternoon.
