PM BROWNE SOLIDLY IN SUPPORT OF CUBAN HEALTH PROGRAMME, DESPITE U.S. PUSHBACK

Prime Minister, Hon. Gaston Browne has reaffirmed his government’s support of the Cuban Medical Brigade, rejecting any claims that the programme is linked to human trafficking or forced labour.

The head of government addressed the issue on the heels of U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s comments on the crucial programme.

Rubio, while on a visit to Jamaica on Wednesday, doubled down on his claims that the Cuban Government operates the programme as forced labour.

However, Prime Minister Browne says the Cuban nurses and doctors provide vital services to Antigua and Barbuda’s public healthcare system.
