PM BROWNE WELCOMES FEVRIER’S WTO APPOINTMENT

CARICOM Chairman and Prime Minister Hon. Gaston Browne is commending Caribbean diplomat Ambassador Stephen Fevrier on his appointment to the cabinet of the World Trade Organization Director-General Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala.
Ambassador Fevrier has been recruited to be a senior advisor to the WTO Director-General. He also heads the OECS mission in Geneva at the WTO.
The St. Lucian national has previously served as OECS ambassador and Permanent Observer to the United Nations in Geneva.
Prime Minister Hon. Gaston Browne says the appointment suggests the WTO is recognizing the importance of the challenging issues that confront small states.
He’s quoted as saying:
“This first step must lead to a place where special and differential treatment, so important to Caricom member states, is entrenched as a core principle of WTO, and all states, big and small, must play according to the rules.”
