PREPARATIONS INTENSIFY FOR A&B’S HOSTING OF CHOGM
The taskforce coordinating preparations for Antigua and Barbuda’s hosting of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in November this year, has reported significant progress.
Members of the national taskforce told cabinet on Wednesday that all planning teams are now fully established and operational, working closely with the Commonwealth Secretariat and other partner organizations.
Director General of Communications in the Prime Minister’s Office, Maurice Merchant, confirms that accommodation concerns are being addressed, international support offers are coming in, and the CHOGM budget is nearing completion.
Border security officials are also expected to meet again soon to fine-tune security and logistical arrangements.
Antigua and Barbuda will be the smallest nation so far to ever host the biennial meeting of the 56-member grouping. Over six thousand delegates are expected to converge in the twin-island state for the event.
