PRIME MINISTER BROWNE CALLS FOR CARICOM-EU SUMMIT TO DISCUSS KEY ISSUES

Prime Minister Hon. Gaston Browne has called for a Summit to be hosted in the region between CARICOM and the European Union. He made the call during an engagement with European Commission President, Ursula von der Leyen during the Caricom Heads of Government Meeting, underway in Barbados.
Prime Minister Browne says the summit would discuss a broad range of issues, including trade, artificial intelligence, climate change and reparations. The proposed summit was warmly received by CARICOM Heads and the European delegation.
The Prime Minister also explained that persistent misunderstandings regarding the management of Citizenship by Investment Programmes in the region would require further dialogue to ensure that European leaders understood the importance of these programmes to the development of the region. He also assured the European delegation that the necessary due diligence was being adhered to throughout the management of these programmes.
