SENATOR HYMAN COMMENTS ON JUDGE ALONE TRIALS
Meanwhile, there’s another reaction this evening to the landmark legislation which will allow for the trial of some criminal matters in the High Court by a Judge sitting without a jury.
The legislation was passed in Parliament’s Lower House on Thursday.
However, this does not include murder trials and the law will be in effect only as long as the pandemic lasts.
Ahead of the bill being debated in Parliament’s Upper House, Senator Maureen Payne-Hyman says it’s not a new occurrence in the Justice system.
