SENTENCES TO BE COMMUTED FOR SOME PRISONERS WORKING ON HAPI INITIATIVE
Prime Minister Hon. Gaston Browne says cabinet has agreed to commute the sentences for some of the skilled prisoners who have been helping to construct homes under the Home Advancement Programme for the Indigent (HAPI) inititiative. He made the announcement in a Facebook post on Thursday morning, indicating this applies to skilled prisoners with “non-heinous convictions.”
Prime Minister Browne also says these skilled inmates will be employed at National Housing immediately upon their release from His Majesty’s Prison.
HAPI is the Government’s signature housing initiative, providing assistance to vulnerable families. The programme recently provided a new home for a family who had been displaced by a fire in March.
