SIR RONALD SANDERS-CHAIRED OAS PERMANENT COUNCIL MULLS HEMISPHERE’S MIGRATION CRISIS
Chair of the Permanent Council of the Organisation of American States, Sir Ronald Sanders says the hemisphere is seeing an unprecedented surge in irregular migration and the flow of refugees.
He was chairing a special meeting of the Council in Washington DC on Thursday on the issue of irregular migration, refugee flows and the deepening involvement of organized crime.
He explained the issue has escalated into a bourgeoning crisis, with significant ramifications for all countries in the hemisphere.
He suggests the permanent council should consider creating a dedicated working group, which would regularly update the permanent council on this issue and provide strategic insights on ways to respond.
