SIR RONALD SANDERS DELIVERS OAS RESOLUTION

This country’s top diplomat in Washington has also continued to intensify the advocacy for equitable access to COVID-19 vaccines for small states such as those in the Caribbean.
Antigua and Barbuda’s Ambassador to the Organisation of American States, Sir Ronald Sanders presented a resolution to the grouping’s Permanent Council yesterday on behalf of Caricom.
Sir Ronald told the body this is a grave exigency.

 

The resolution was adopted by Permanent Council by acclamation.
Sir Ronald quoted the stark findings of a study done this week which underscores the gravity of the problem and the need for concerted efforts to address it.

 

Sir Ronald also points to the fact that several OAS member states in Central America and the Caribbean also face recurring natural disasters, and their challenges were compounded by the pandemic.
He says several are stretched to the limit, and insists it is important for large numbers of people to be inoculated in these countries before the start of the hurricane season in June.
