SMALL VESSELS RELOCATED FROM POINT WHARF

Tourism Minister, the Hon. Charles Fernandez has explained why smaller vessels are being moved from the Point Wharf area.
The relocation comes as part of the construction of the fifth pier in St. John’s Harbour to accommodate Royal Caribbean’s Oasis class ships.

The small vessels will now dock at an area where new land has been created using waste material from dredging being done for the new pier.

Minister Fernandez led officials of his ministry on a tour of the work last Friday. The construction of the fifth cruise pier is being hailed as a major milestone for the country’s cruise tourism sector.
It is being constructed as part of the lease deal with Global Ports Holding.
Meanwhile, this is being done, even as the cargo port at Deep Water Harbour is being re-developed; authorities say it will become an ultra-modern facility which will position Antigua as a major regional trans-shipment hub.
