STREETS SURROUNDING THE PUBLIC MARKET CLEARED OF VENDORS

Published

on

The St. John’s Development Corporation (SJDC) has commenced its phased revamp of vending in the capital, with street vending now prohibited along sections of Market Street and Lower All Saints Road near the VC Bird Bust. There was an unimpeded flow of pedestrian and vehicular traffic in the area Tuesday morning, as vendors who previously sold their wares from the streets were moved inside the Market Complex.

So far, vendors have complied, and stalls have been relocated. Reactions to the changes have been mixed; while many pedestrians welcome the cleaner and more accessible sidewalks, some vendors have expressed frustration with the new locations, calling them inadequate. They are calling for the SJDC to take their concerns into consideration and make changes.
