Sweeping Of St John’s Harbor To Resume After Short Break
The sweeping of the St John’s Harbour has resumed after a pause for maintenance to the vessel carrying out the activity.
Port manager Darwin Telemaque says a replacement part and an engineer arrived from Holland Thursday and carried out the necessary repairs. Sweeping recommenced at 9 pm yesterday.
Last Friday, the vessel – MV Shoreway – encountered difficulty with one of its hydraulic systems.
Telemaque says the response from the sub-contractor, Bauscalis, was speedy. And the contractor Ansamacar was on top of the issue ensuring that the downtime would be minimized.
He says as of last Friday, over 140 thousand cubic meters of silt were removed from the Harbour, primarily around the south Nevis pier and turning basin.
This was done in over 32 trips.
Telemaque anticipates that the process will be complete by the end of May.
