SWETES MAIN ROAD TO BE NAMED AFTER RUFUS LEWIS

Swetes’ main road will be renamed the Rufus Lewis Highway, Prime Minister Gaston Browne announced at the funeral of trade union stalwart Rufus Adolph Lewis. Lewis, a longtime 39ers member, helped develop infrastructure across Antigua, including Old Road Primary School and All Saints Police Station.

It comes after Lewis’ son Enoch Lewis asked for the honour in light of his father’s service to the country. Though the Prime Minister said he planned to make the announcement regardless.

Lewis also served as a member of the AT&LU executive committee for 22 years and retired in 2021.
