The Expansion Work On The Country’s Main Sea Port Expected To Begin Within Months

In a matter of months, construction will commence on the country’s main sea port.

Minister of State in the Ministry of Finance, Senator Lennox Weston says critical talks have been held with representatives from the China Exim Bank on the Port Development Plan.

Senator Weston says major construction will begin shortly as a facility has been recently negotiated with the Chinese officials.

He says the first phase of the US$200 million dollar project will commence in a matter of months.

Meanwhile, Senator Weston adds that the Ministry of Finance has been given the go ahead to secure an additional 15 million dollars to extend the pier to allow for mega cruise ships to dock.

The plans for the new port include: a cargo facility, a logistics park, the relocation of the transit shed, construction of a hotel and marina facilities, a Caribbean Maritime Institute for the training of Seafarers and a new cruise ship terminal on the western end of the existing compound.
