TRIALS FOR CRUMP DESPITE HER PARNTER’S GUILTY PLEAS
Twenty-year-old Shanyea Crump remains on remand and separated from her 11-month-old baby, as prosecutors insist on trial against her in two separate drug and firearm matters.
In court this morning, Crump pleaded not guilty, while her partner and the baby’s father, 21-year-old Terry Williams, pleaded guilty to all charges in both cases.
Prosecutors say they will still try to convict Crump, meaning they must prove she had knowledge of the firearm and cannabis and custody or physical control of them alongside Williams.
The magistrate reminded the defence about bail, noting that in firearm-related matters, magistrates have no bail jurisdiction, so any bail application for Crump must be made to the High Court.
The cannabis trial is set for May 6, and the firearms matter for May 8.
Crump was allowed a brief time with her baby after the hearing.
