UNDERSTANDING RISK CONFERENCE BEGINS
RISK IN THE CARIBBEAN TAKES CENTRESTAGE AT HIGH-LEVEL CONFERENCE
Barbados’ Prime Minister Mia Mottley has made a forthright case for political will to tackle the risks the region faces, mainly from the effects of climate change. She was delivering the keynote address on Monday at the start of the ‘Understanding Risk Caribbean Conference’ in Barbados. Prime Minister Mottley stressed the need for this political will at both the national and domestic levels.
The conference is being held just days away from the start of the 2019 Atlantic Hurricane season, and has brought together leading figures from multi-lateral agencies including the World Bank, as well government and disaster risk management officials. It is organized by the World Bank’s Caribbean Disaster Risk Management team, in partnership with the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency, CDEMA.
