UPP Reiterates Its’ Call For “Cutie” To Step Down
The United Progressive Party (UPP) has reiterated its call for due process following the recent judgment from the Privy Council involving an ALP candidate and sitting Representative for St John’s City South, Steadroy “Cutie” Benjamin.
The UPP contends that the deliberate issuance of a false passport to Shane Allen in the name of Tyrel Dusty Brann, deceased, constituted a criminal act, for which other persons have already been convicted and served prison sentences.
A release from the party claims that Benjamin endorsed this passport application and certified that a photograph of Shane Allen was a likeness of Tyrel Brann, who had been deceased for several months and whose family was known to Benjamin personally.
The UPP notes that the Privy Council wholly rejected “Cutie” Benjamin’s legal argument that the Constitution allows judicial processes initiated by the police to be halted by prosecutors.
Benjamin’s opponent on the Campaign trail, Senator Mervyn Richards has joined the call for “Cutie” Benjamin to voluntarily stand down as a candidate pending the resolution of these legal matters.
