US REJOINS WHO AND IS SET TO JOIN COVAX

The United States is set to join COVAX, the World Health Organisation facility to ensure equitable distribution of vaccines.
The announcement was made by the US’ top infectious disease expert Dr Anthony Fauci on Thursday.
Antigua and Barbuda is among several countries around the world to have joined the COVAX facility.
The country is expecting to receive vaccines under the programme in coming months.
However, Prime Minister Hon. Gaston Browne and other regional leaders have been voicing concern about the hoarding of vaccines by rich countries.
A vaccine advisory committee and national co-ordinating committee have been established by the Health Ministry in preparation for the roll-out.
