There have been four recognized variants of the SARS-CoV-2 virus.
The World Health Organization’s Covid-19 Technical Lead Dr. Maria Van Kerkhove explains why the B.1.617 variant first identified in India is one of concern and not just of interest.

Dr. Van Kerkhove says research continues on the transmissibility and effects of each variant. She says as part of the coordinated regimen, vaccines work.
