WINDIES LOSE ODI SERIES TO NEW ZEALAND DESPITE HOPE’S HEROICS IN SECOND MATCH
Shai Hope’s 19th One-Day International century was not enough to save West Indies from a series defeat at the hands of New Zealand, after a 5-wicket defeat in the second ODI in Napier.
Hope slammed an unbeaten 69-ball 109 inclusive of 13 boundaries and 4 sixes, in a match reduced to 34-overs-a-side because of rain.
The Caribbean side amassed 247 for 9, as Hope became the second-fastest West Indian to get to 6,000 runs, behind Sir Vivian Richards.
In reply, openers Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra set the foundation with half centuries, as the Kiwis overhauled the target, reaching 248/5 with 3 balls to spare.
Matthew Forde focused on the positives the Caribbean cricketers can take into the third and final ODI.
