There is growing concern over the long-term health effects of skin bleaching products containing steroids.

Director of Pharmaceutical Services, Alfred Athill, says the issue is a major concern for members within the medical fraternity.

Athill says these products suppress melanin production in the skin, leaving users in a vulnerable position. He also warns that prolonged use of steroid-based skin lightening products poses serious risks—including weight gain, diabetes and possible organ damage.
