Antigua and Barbuda has formally welcomed Zimbabwe’s new ambassador, His Excellency Cecil Chinenere. The new diplomat presented his credentials to Governor General’s Deputy Sir Clare Roberts and engaged in high-level talks Tuesday morning.

Discussions with Foreign Affairs Minister Hon. E. P. Chet Greene focused on strengthening bilateral relations, including proposed cooperation agreements in areas such as agriculture, health, technology and information sharing, which could be finalised later this year.

Ambassador Chinenere also advised that his country has presented a candidate for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council for the 2027–2028 term and requested Antigua and Barbuda’s consideration. The issue is to be taken to Cabinet.

The ambassador further appealed for Antigua and Barbuda’s advocacy regarding the removal of unilateral economic sanctions on Zimbabwe. Both Prime Minister Hon. Gaston Browne and Foreign Minister Greene expressed a willingness to advocate on behalf of the African country on this matter.
