PUBLIC HOLIDAY CONSULTATION TWO
Another consultation was held today on proposed changes to the Public Holiday Act.
Attorney General and Labour Minister Steadroy Benjamin met with religious leaders to get their feedback on Sundays being treated as a regular work day in respect to employment.
This means workers will not be given premium pay for working on Sundays even though the day will still be regarded as a Common Law Holiday.
Dr. Carson Greene of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church says he has a concern.
However, Minister Benjamin says these discussions should be held between employer and employee before work begins.
Minister Benjamin says the nature of the job especially in today’s world plays a role in the days an employee may be expected to work.
He says this is why these discussions should be held before employment begins.
Another consultation is scheduled for this Thursday.
