ACCIDENT VICTIM THANKS CALVIN AYRE FOUNDATION AND PUBLIC
A 25 year old resident airlifted from Antigua to her native Colombia for urgent medical attention has already had her first surgery today, with another set for this Saturday.
Leidy Paola Galvis Salazar had sustained multiple fractures to her leg and arm in a horrific vehicular crash on May 3.
She had been trapped in the vehicle until an emergency team was able to remove her from the wreck.
Salazar was airlifted thanks to a successful GoFundme campaign, which raised US$10,000.00 through an outpouring of support from the public.
The Calvin Ayre Foundation came on board to cover the outstanding expense of over US$12,000 in order to meet the targeted airlift cost of US$23,000.00.
Ayre Group’s and CAF’s Media Relations Specialist, Jamilla Kirwan, says when the Foundation learned of the urgent need for emergency airlift, the decision was quickly taken to assist the family.
Honorary Consul to Colombia, Maria Britto, expressed appreciation on behalf of the Government of Colombia and Leidy’s family.
Leidy came to the island to work as a Mixologist, her area of expertise. Although currently unable to move her arms and legs, she holds on to hope that she will soon be able to return to realizing her dreams and once again, live a full life.
