FORMER XPZ SUPERMARKET WORKER SENTENCED FOR TORCHING THE ESTABLISHMENT

Chinese national Tianzhao Feng, who is also known as Alex, will spend another year and two months in prison for setting XPZ Supermarket ablaze June 2021.
Justice Ann-Marie Smith handed down the sentence on Wednesday, just over a month after Feng pleaded guilty to arson.
The defendant intentionally set the supermarket on fire, putting over 50 people out of work.
In a social enquiry report, Feng claimed he was mistreated by the supermarket’s management and detailed what has been described as inhumane and cruel living and working conditions.
In formulating the sentence, the judge considered several factors, including Feng’s guilty plea and the allegations in the report.
Justice Smith also deducted the time Feng spent on remand for the offence, before handing down the sentence.
Attorney Wendel Alexander represented the defendant pro bono.
