ABLP Government Denies Former GG’s Claim
The government and outgoing Governor General Dame Louise Lake Tack are at odds over her claims for compensation after she demits office at midnight.
According to Chief of Staff Lionel Max Hurst, the government does not agree with the amount Dame Louise is demanding for her compensation package.
Hurst says the Emoluments and Pension Act, 2006 gave full benefits to outgoing Governor Generals once they serve a max of 8 consecutive years in office.
He or she would be granted their salary for life along with a vehicle and a driver, secretary and housing staff until they die.
Dame Louise Lake tack assumed office as Governor General on July 17, 2007.
A source close to the outgoing Governor General told ABS news that she would never violate the laws of Antigua and Barbuda.
She however feels that she is entitled certain compensation based on the 2006 act that was passed, based on recommendations made by Sir James Carlisle. That act of parliament, he believes, is what will ultimately determine Dame Louise’s compensation.
