Caribarena reports that Bird & Yearwood confess to receiving kickbacks
Antiguans and Barbudans at home and in the Diaspora continue to be intrigued by the revelations of the news website Caribarena.
In its latest installation exposing corruption in the former Antigua Labour Party (ALP) regime, Caribarena on Monday presented an audio to substantiate its claim that former Prime Minister Lester Bird and former Cabinet Minister Robin Yearwood received tens of thousands of dollars in kickbacks for extending the West Indies Oil Company government agreement for 20 years.
Caribarena asserts that this was done without Cabinet’s approval. In the audio recording, former Junior Minister to the former Prime Minister Asot Michael asserts, that he had the original extension of the agreement. Caribarena, which for a short period published a traditional newspaper, closed their offices and the principals hurriedly left the state, after publishing a series of articles and recordings alleged to be the voices of leading ALP leaders.
ABS News has been unable to independently verify the stories and calls to the players involved have been futile, but a leading member of the True Antigua Labour Party, who spoke anonymously, says that they expect more revelations about corruption in the ABLP, which makes True Labour, the party of choice to restore the dignity of its founder V.C. Bird.
