Botanical Gardens pigs Relocation
The livestock housed at the Botanical Gardens will finally have a new home, making way for funding and the establishment of the first well-being park in Antigua and Barbuda.
Chief Environment Officer, Ambassador Dianne Black-Layne, details the relocation of the pigs to the McKinnons Pond, where the division has built a sewage treatment plant as a pilot.
The transfer will be completed in a few months, once the fence is constructed and a security system is in place.
The move, according to the Chief Environment Officer, will also be of great benefit in the rehabilitation of approximately 60 inmates, through a corporation programme with Her Majesty’s Prison.
She adds that the inmates will be dressed in work attire, not prison wear, and will be paid a stipend.
