By-Election Slated for Barbuda
The Barbuda Council, which currently has an Antigua Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP) majority, is the authority that manages the day-to-day internal affairs and is mainly responsible for regulating development.
Nibbs says that resigning from the post as council chairman will allow him to focus on his parliamentary duties.
The successful ABLP candidate defeated the Barbuda People’s Movement (BPM) candidate by a single vote, reaching 485, to secure his seat in the lower house.
Once Nibbs tenders his registration as Council Chairman, the Governor General is expected is issue a date for the by-election to be held within 90 days.
