The Calvin Ayre Foundation has stepped in to assist 21 year old Chevan Jones, who was injured in a vehicular accident along All Saints Road on May 18.
The Foundation airlifted him to the Dominican Republic on Monday, at a cost of US$39,000.00.
He had been rushed to the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre with serious injuries and referred to an orthopedic surgeon in the Dominican Republic for crucial surgical procedures.
The Calvin Ayre Foundation says the family had explained they could not have afforded the cost of travel via air ambulance, in addition to the cost of surgery and recovery.
The Foundation’s media relations specialist, Jamilla Kirwan said the initial call for assistance was made on behalf of Jones’ father, by Senator Samantha Marshall.
Kirwan then reached out to his mother, Alverine Bailey, who submitted a donation request letter and her son’s medical documents.
Kirwan says the Foundation is happy to have played a role in getting Jones to the Dominican Republic in time for his surgery, which was scheduled for Wednesday.
