CONSULTATIONS ON JUDGE-ALONE TRIALS SET TO BEGIN WITHIN “NEXT THREE MONTHS”

The Government is aiming to begin consultations within the next three months on the way forward for judge-only trials.
The announcement comes, even as the Senate passed an amendment on Thursday to the Criminal Proceedings (Trial by Judge Alone) Act of 2021.
The legislation extends trials without juries in certain matters for another year.
