FIRE DESTROYS THREE STRUCTURES ON WAPPING LANE

Fire gutted three structures on St. George’s Street and Wapping Lane this afternoon.
They include Paddy Simon’s warehouse for his lawn mower repair shop and two homes.
Simon says lawn mowers, weed wackers, chain saws and generators were stored there.
He alleges the fire was caused by drug users squatting in the house next to his storeroom.
Simon was enraged saying that for over a year he has made several attempts calling the police to have them removed.

He says he had a hunch this would’ve happened.

Simon says he has suffered huge losses in the blaze.
The business owner says he has the authority to demolish the property however it hasn’t yet been done due to the curfew.
He says the property is a legacy left to him by his father who purchased it in 1962.
Meanwhile, Inspector Timothy Drew attached to the St John’s Police Station, did not wish to be on camera, but told us three structures were already fully engulfed when fire fighters arrived.
The focus he says was saving a structure behind them.
