Governement Seek Ways To Further Develop The Local Baking Industry

Government is taking a look at the local baking industry to see in what ways it may be further developed.

A spokesman for the Ministry of Trade says the government is trying to determine how this industry may be linked with the tourism industry.

He says a top concern of the ministry is the establishment of standards for the entire industry as well as certain incentives available to help with the growth of this sector.

The trade ministry official says the plan is for the local baking industry to become competitive. For example, he says while most hotels do their own baking.He believes that there is still room for many hotels to source bread locally.

The ministry believes that even some of the bread and baking products that are sold at many supermarkets can be purchased locally.

According to the official, the fall in oil prices should soon be felt in the country and that would make local baking products more competitive.
