Internet Theft On The Rise

Police are warning that the incidence of theft via the internet is on the rise and therefore advise residents to conduct business with extreme caution when online.

A release from the lawmen’s Strategic Communications Division (STRATCOM) says lately, the police have been inundated with reports of people having been defrauded large sums of money over the internet.

The latest occurrence was reportedly last week, when the account of a Liberta woman was hacked into and an undisclosed sum withdrawn.

According to police, perpetrators are reportedly using social networking websites to offer employment and other services in exchange for personal banking information.

Police are therefore urging people to beware of such scammers and choose carefully where they disclose personal information or conduct business.
