JAMAICAN SPRINTER CLEARED OF DRUG CHARGES
BREAKING NEWS: Jamaica’s budding sprinting phenom, Briana Williams has been cleared to compete by the Independent Anti-Doping Disciplinary Panel. She was reprimanded with no period of ineligibility after her two-day anti-doping hearing this week.
17 year old Williams tested positive for the banned substance hydrochlorothiazide (HTCZ) and faced the hearing to determine whether she was at fault.
The IADP says it finds “that the athlete has established no significant fault or negligence as she was given tablets by her guardian and had no intention to cheat in her in-competition sprint event on June 21, 2019.
The IADP has recommended the athlete undergoes another education programme on anti-doping in sports rules.
Williams had pleaded not guilty in the positive test and is said to have declared taking a cold medicine, Pharma Cold and Flu during the Jamaican Championships, given to her by her mother, Sharon Simpson.
She is the double Under-20 World Champion. She clocked a personal best and Jamaican National Junior record of 10.94 seconds in the 100 meters at the Jamaica trials.
She is now clear to compete at the World Championships which start on Friday in Doha, Qatar.
