LIAT To Pay Workers
The Corporate Communications Manager for regional Carrier LIAT said he’s unaware of a company agreement to pick up the tab for late charge penalties workers incur when their salaries are paid late.
The official, Desmond Browne, was commenting on a recent report surfacing in local media. According to the article, Chairman of the LIAT Trade Union group, Chester Humphreys, said the agreement was put on the table by bargaining agents during a meeting with the new CEO, David Evans, about two weeks ago.
Since the start of the year, LIAT has been paying salaries up to two weeks late, resulting in staff with mortgages and loans, incurring late fees.
Brown said he was not aware of the agreement but added that he would verify with company executives before giving an official response.
