Minister hopeful of new prison facility
Minister of National Security, Dr. the hon. Errol Cort is optimistic that 2014 will see the commencement of a new correctional facility in Antigua and Barbuda. Cort says the current state of the prison makes it impossible for new programs that will positively impact inmates, to be introduced.
He continues that with the completion of the new prison, more rehabilitation programs, that will aid prisoners on making a full transition back into society, will come on stream.
Her Majesty’s prison, originally build to accommodate less than 200 persons, and currently houses 358 inmates. One of the locations being considered is the Prison Farm in Blackout.
