Minister of National Security says Government has better Crime fighting record
Despite being severely criticized for what the opposition Antigua Labour Party (ALP) describes as a spike in criminal activity, Minister of National Security, Dr. the hon. Errol Cort says statistically the government has a better crime fighting record.
He highlights that during the last four years under the ALP, there was a total of 12,314 crimes committed compared with the last four years under the United Progressive Party (UPP) administration, where only 9,828 crimes were committed.
The National Security Minister says anyone who believes that the ALP can best fight crime is fooling themselves.
He recommends the combined support of residents, community groups and religious organizations to eradicate crime.
Cort lists the installation of CCTV cameras, increases in salaries for police officers, additional training and equipment for police officers, a state-of-the-art 911 emergency system and a radio communications network as just a few of the measures implemented to take a bite out of crime.
