Amputees in Antigua & Barbuda to benefit from “Let them walk Volunteers”

amputeeAmputees living in Antigua and Barbuda is set to benefit from the “Let them Walk volunteers” who arrived on island today (Sat).

The team of five on a weeklong visit, headed by Dr. Bauer (Bower) Sum-pio will provide prosthetic legs to persons who are amputated below the knees.

Local coordinator of the initiative Alphonso Richardson told ABS News that ten individuals will benefit from this 1st phase, while in two months other persons will be beneficiaries when the group returns to the island.

Richardson adds that the project is geared to help amputees who cannot afford to purchase the prosthetic legs, noting that each limp cost between 15-20 thousand US dollars.

The local coordinator confirms that the group will be at MSJMC tomorrow (Sunday) morning where they will examine patients.

It is the first time the volunteers will be working in Antigua, but they have been to Barbados where about 30 people have benefited from their charity.
