Case Against Jahciba Shoy Thrown Out
The High Court has dismissed the case against 27-year-old Jahciba Shoy, who had been accused of Murder, Aggravated Robbery and Manslaughter.
The charges had stemmed from the murder of Roudi Shmaly during an armed robbery at Pick ‘N Mix Mart on DeSouza Road in 2023.
Shoy’s attorney, Wendel Alexander, was successful with a no-case submission, insisting the prosecution had failed to provide evidence that his client was linked to the deadly robbery, though surveillance footage had shown the two walking together minutes ahead of the robbery. The prosecution had also sought to link Shoy to the incident, indicating he was seen carrying a bag across his shoulder, similar to the bag which was later seen being carried by the then 16-year-old male who pulled the trigger.
Alexander tells ABS News, “That is simply not enough and I was able to argue that it was too risky to leave that case of speculation and suspicion to the jury.”
The teenager who was earlier convicted for the murder served three years in prison, the maximum at the time under juvenile sentencing guidelines.
